MobiniL Egypt : Starting the wave ?

If you live in Egypt – Just like me – you will be familiar with the famous sentence “Egypt, Mother of the world” I don’t where this came from – neither you will know actually – but what we are about to discuss here is how the mother connect to its sons using one of the most convenient methods, The internet.

Actually there is something more convenient which is Portable/Mobile Internet, this is the easiest way to connect to your e-mail, social networks ( Facebook, Twitter, etc.. ) checking the news, chatting and so on.. Things that most of the teenagers do these days..

So what did our generous mobile networks offer us to manage that ? Nothing actually, they offer 5 Mb of data daily for 1 EGP and 5 EGP for each extra MB or if I say it in another way ( 5 thieves going into your pocket and getting their friends after they enjoy stealing your money )

True, most of the people don’t even know where is the data counter on their phone – if there is one – and the 5 MB isn’t even enough to take a pee on the internet ( sorry for that )

One of the services that surfaced at last is the new Mobinil data plan, with it you take 100 MB data with no extra charges for extra MB that slip on For only 20EGP / month , of course the speed will be limited after 100 MB but at least your pocket will be safe from those tiny thieves hah ?

what is also wonderful that this plan is valid for the prepaid lines too, isn’t that awesome ? At last i am able to enjoy the always online 3G internet anywhere and anytime, even if my speed is capped after the 100 MB it doesn’t affect my e-mail, twitter, or even facebook, it only matters when i am browsing and thats where opera mini jumps in

I actually used in one month 500 MB ( 100MB at full speed and 400 on capped speed ) just to know if they gonna call me or so and nope, I actually used 500 MB on 3G network paying 20 EGP only, something that most my fellow teens will value

and just where are our other to mobile networks actually after about 6 months of this plan release ? eh, let me check… here ? there ?

Nope, they are 6 months back taking extra charges for every data that slip out of your mobile … I hope they wake up soon smart phones are knocking the doors and they need unlimited internet on the mobile, they need a variety of data plans to choose from, i use an Android device and that really matters to me and i am sure there are many at my age that will be interested in it too..

Long time since i last posted, so anyway the 3 mobile companies in egypt have reduced some of the prices and added some new data plans, so here we go..

For Etisalat Egypt:

which seems to be the most reliable till now offers 2 unlimited packages:

385Kbps for a 150 EGP/month.

7.2Mbps for a 300 EGP/month.

Both speeds are maintained until reaching 6Gb then will be reduced to 64Kbps.

and the limited packages varies from 100Mb to 1 Gb.

Mobinil :

this link lists the variaty of plans they have which seems to be all limited.

and if you ask me, i am not recommending this plans for a moderate user beacause if you start passing the limit without knowing, you will be surprised by the extra charge in th bill.

Vodafone :

Final words :

as you can see i am focusing the unlimited plans, since the limited thing is kinda unpractical and most of the time you will be passing it.

you should get a limited plan only as a secondary internet resort, like on the road or so…

As a main access, i think you should stick to the unlimited thing, and am recommending the 150EGP package from Etisalat since it offer more limit than the similar one from Vodafone, and at the same time provides a decent wireless speed ( around 65Kb/s on my tests ).

This is all the data plans provided by Egypt 3G carriers – Etisalat, Vodafone and Mobinil – including limited and unlimited access plans,

-For LIMITED access:

Vodafone packages:

500 M.b. bandwidth = 43 EGP/month 60 EGP without 3G modem

2 G.b. bandwidth = 87 EGP/month 120 EGP without 3G modem

Mobinil packages:

500 M.b. bandwidth = 50 EGP/month

3 G.b. bandwidth = 150 EGP/month

Etisalat packages:

100 M.b. bandwidth = 30 EGP

1 G.b. bandwidth = 100 EGP

-For UNLIMITED access:

166 EGP/month 4 G.b. max. bandwidth and then speed decrease to 64kbps

Why we are so bad ? -ISP Review-

As many of you may notice from the web search about ISPs in other countries, viewing the price and quality difference between The isp’s in Egypt like tedata, Egynet and other providers..
All you will gonna say is “Omg, This sucks”

But have you ever wandered why this sucks ?
What kind of problem you have ?
-Bad ping! Its likely because one of the sea cables is cut down.
-Slow download speed! let me give you an example, you buy a package of 512kbps and share it with your neighbours – lets say about 10 people – and the company ( ISP ) originally shares that speed with 10 customers, So it is a 100 people connection.

Want some Advice ?
Save your Internet connection to yourself.
Its illegal to share Internet connection, if you see someone do, charge him.
Try new ISPs rather than the popular ones,but NOT a reseller company.
And Test Your Internet speed if its so slow call the customer service and complain, to let them know that they should reserve you more bandwidth.

Test your internet speed

There are many methods to test your speed…why ? Oh, to see if you were scammed by your isp or not.
Best of these methods is using internet speedtest sites like speedtest.net or testmy.net
How to calculate it ? Its easy, if you have 512kbps connection then you divide by 8 to get your download speed -64kb/s- and if you have a 4:1 connection that would be (64/4) 16kb/s upload speed.

Pings and Delay

For Garena users…
Using the tunnel Option to tunnel the host gives you the a number, This number is your ping to that specific host.
e.g. Found 1 tunnel, Ping:39
ping range:
1 to 200ms : pretty good you won’t experience any delay.
218 to 400ms : you will notice a delay from 0.5-1 sec.
more than 400: not recommended for playing

Note:
-the pings that is shown in the tunnel function doesn’t have any relation with spikes/lag you may experience, it only gives an idea on how much delay you have from that host
-pings decrease as the distance between you and the host decrease e.g. two players in Egypt from the same isp may have a ping of 30ms or less.

Comment here on problems you had with your isp while playing, surfing, or even downloading..
This will help many people to make a good decision before renewing their isp.

Display your isp name, your speed deal, and finally the problems you had.

Client/Host speeds

Garena Warcraft III Dota players:

For you to join a game with no lag/delay/spikes FROM YOUR SIDE, you must have:
- 256kbps for 1 player.
- 512kbps for 2 players… etc.

For you to host a game with no lag/delay/spikes FROM YOUR SIDE, you must have:
- 512kbps 1:1 package (not the normal 4:1) for a 3v3 game.
- 1Mbps 1:1 package for a 5v5 game… etc.
